Arriving at CDG: 7 Tips to Reach Paris Without the Stress
Just landed at Charles de Gaulle and not sure how to get to Paris? Here are our practical tips for a smooth, hassle-free CDG → Paris transfer.
You've just landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Bags collected, you're now facing the question thousands of travellers ask every day: how do I get to Paris easily, quickly, and without any nasty surprises?
Here are our 7 tips, drawn from our daily experience as a VTC driver at CDG.
1. Wait for your luggage before anything else
Before looking for transport, make sure you have all your bags. The carousel can take 20 to 40 minutes after landing — that's normal. Use the time to turn off flight mode, check your messages, and confirm your pick-up if you've pre-booked.
2. Avoid unlicensed taxis outside the terminal
Outside the terminals, you'll often find people offering rides on the spot. Never get into a car without an official meter or a pre-booking. Prices can be two to three times higher than regulated fares, and your safety isn't guaranteed.
Official G7 or Cab taxis have dedicated ranks in every terminal. Budget around €55–65 to the Right Bank, €60–70 to the Left Bank.
3. The RER B: handy, but not ideal with heavy luggage
The RER B connects CDG to Paris in 35 minutes for around €12. It's cheap, but comes with a few drawbacks:
- Multiple connections with stairs and narrow gates
- Not suited to bulky suitcases or families
- Pickpocket risk on this route
- Last train around midnight
Perfect for a solo traveller with a backpack. Less ideal for families, older passengers, or business travellers.
4. Pre-book a private driver — the smart, underrated option
A VTC driver pre-booked from home or your hotel gives you:
- A fixed price confirmed before departure (no surprises)
- A driver waiting in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign
- Real-time flight tracking — if you're delayed, they already know
- 60 minutes of free waiting time after landing

5. Terminal 1, 2 or 3: know where you're landing
CDG is a huge airport with three separate terminals and shuttle buses between them.
- Terminal 1: foreign airlines (Air China, United, Delta…)
- Terminal 2: Air France and its SkyTeam partners (A, B, C, D, E, F, G)
- Terminal 3: low-cost carriers (easyJet, Vueling…)
Check your boarding pass to see which terminal you'll arrive at. It'll save you 20 minutes of wandering.
6. Allow 45 to 75 minutes depending on traffic
The distance from CDG to Paris is around 30 km. Depending on the time of day:
| Departure time | Estimated duration | |---|---| | Night (00:00–06:00) | 30–40 min | | Off-peak morning | 45–55 min | | Rush hour (07:00–09:00, 17:00–20:00) | 60–90 min |
Leave plenty of margin, especially if you have a connection or an important appointment.
7. Don't forget Wi-Fi and a plug adapter
CDG has free Wi-Fi in all terminals. Connect as soon as you land to confirm your booking or message your hotel.
If you're travelling from the US or UK, remember your plug adapter — French sockets are type E (round, 2-pin).
Our final tip: travel relaxed with a dedicated driver
After a long flight, the last thing you need is stress over transport. A pre-booked private driver waits for you, adjusts to any delay, loads your luggage, and takes you straight to your destination — in silence, in comfort, at a fixed rate.
Easy Paris Ride operates CDG → Paris transfers 24/7, with flight tracking included.
